What is Ultra Low Sulphur Gas Oil?

Gas Oil 10ppm / Ultra Low Sulphur Gas Oil is a (Derv specification) distillate fuel manufactured to give clean burning, maximum heat output and efficient combustion in boilers and off-road diesel engines.

Ultra Low Sulphur Gas Oil is a "dual purpose" fuel and is recommended as a boiler fuel in domestic or light industrial installations with pressure jet burners and as a diesel fuel for off road equipment such as stationary diesel engines, farm tractors, construction equipment, railway and marine engines.

Ultra Low Sulphur Gas Oil exceeds the latest requirements of relevant British Standard Specification BS 2869 Class A2 and D, and the sulphur levels are significantly lower than that of standard Gas Oil.

Fuel properties are seasonally adjusted to maintain good low temperature operability.

Who can use it?

Ultra low sulphur gas oil, also known as red diesel, is extensively used to run off-road vehicles and equipment; tractors for farming and sit-on lawn mowers, horticulture machinery, forestry equipment and even backup generators. 

Why is red diesel red?

Red diesel is the low duty form of diesel and can be used in off-road untaxed vehicles i.e. agricultural / industrial / construction machinery and as home heating only. As this fuel is minimally taxed, it cannot be used as automotive diesel fuel in normal cars. Red Diesel is dyed red so it can be distinguished from white diesel (regular road diesel). A concentrate is added to the white diesel, which then changes the colour to red. The red colour permits inspectors to check for red diesel rapidly and to prosecute the criminal using it immediately.
